Microsoft’s Mixer streaming service adds new Education category for online classes and studying

Seemingly in response to the growing need for online learning during the COVID-19 global pandemic, Mixer has just added a new Education category dedicated solely to instructional and teaching streams.

“We’ve officially launched the Education category right here on Mixer so you can share your knowledge with your classes, friends, or the whole Community!” the official Mixer Twitter account posted in a tweet earlier today. “Check it out and call on your students with sub-second latency.”

As of the time of this writing, there’s no live streams in the category yet but it’s literally only a few hours old so that’s to be expected as most streamers wouldn’t have heard of it yet. It should be interesting to see how the Education category evolves over the coming months though as more schools close down around the globe and students, teachers, and parents move online.

Earlier this month, Mixer also performed a complete revamp to its homepage and also gave its smartphone apps a significant update.
