Microsoft’s Minecraft Coming To The Wii U On December 17 – OnMSFT.com

When Microsoft acquired Mojang last year, there was fear that Minecraft would become an exclusive to bolster sales of Microsoft’s platforms. Which is of course, bonkers, proven by Minecraft’s continued development, and prosperity, on all current gaming platforms. And if there is any doubter left, the news of Minecraft coming to the Wii U (from Polygon), should silence them for good.
The Wii U version of Minecraft makes good use of the special capabilities of Nintendo’s machine, with full play support on the GamePad’s screen and split-screen play on HD TVs of up to four people offline. With split-screen games a dying breed (even Halo ditched the mode,) the Wii U is one of the few bastions left where gamers can assuredly have some good together fun on the same machine, and Minecraft Wii U will fit into this DNA. Online multiplayer is also an options with up to eight players joining a game.

“With so many included add-on content packs, Minecraft: Wii U Edition brings an exciting collection of Minecraft content and experiences to Nintendo fans,” “Wii U players will have plenty of reasons to keep coming back to this iconic gaming experience.” – Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s president and COO.

The game includes six add-on content packs, with sixteen more available alongside its launch for separate purchases. More content in the future for the Wii U version has also been promised by developer Mojang, who are working hard together with Nintendo behind the scenes. Minecraft Wii U is priced at $29.99, and will be available from the Nintendo eShop in North America from December 17 this year.
