Microsoft unveils new OneDrive API, lets you manage user data across Windows, the web, iOS, and Android

Microsoft has announced the availability of a new OneDrive API, allowing developers to store and manage user data across various platforms, including Windows, the web, iOS, and Android. Microsoft has already begun using this new API internally in all of Microsoft’s apps.

“I’m excited to announce the release of the new OneDrive API, which allows developers to integrate OneDrive into their apps to store and manage user data across all major platforms, including Windows, the web, iOS, and Android. With this new RESTful API, you can build on a scalable cloud storage platform that reaches users across the entire family of Microsoft consumer services.” — Ryan Gregg, OneDrive.

Microsoft has taken a step forward in making OneDrive a platform that is more accessible and powerful than ever before. The new API is faster and comes with new features, offering the following benefits:

  • The ability to retrieve new changes to files and folders to efficiently keep a large set of files in sync with minimal calls.
  • Resumable uploads of files up to 10 GB via file-fragment uploading for working with rich content, like HD videos.
  • Customizable file thumbnail images for delivering a more integrated experience across your app and OneDrive.

For example, one could utilize the new OneDrive API to integrate OneDrive with IFTTT, a popular service that bridges a connection between two products or services. With IFTTT integration, you can save files from across the internet to OneDrive.
