Microsoft to celebrate 20th Anniversary of Xbox with special broadcast on November 15

Microsoft has announced a special digital broadcast on November 15 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Xbox. As you may know, the original Xbox console launched on November 15, 2001 alongside Halo: Combat Evolved, and the upcoming event should have a big focus on Halo with the much-anticipated Halo Infinite coming on December 8.

“While we won’t announce any new games, this anniversary broadcast will be a special look back at 20 years of Xbox. We’ll share more details soon, so stay tuned,” wrote Matt Booty, Head of Xbox Game Studios. This doesn’t rule out Microsoft giving us updates on upcoming games such as Starfield, Hellblade II, Forza Motorsport 8, or State of Decay 3, though we’ll have to wait and see.

Next month will also mark the first anniversary of the release of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, which still remain very hard to find due to the ongoing chip shortages. Microsoft’s next-gen consoles did lack a killer exclusive at launch after Halo Infinite was delated to 2021, though Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios division has finally started to deliver in recent months. Microsoft Flight Simulator and Psychonauts 2 both received critical acclaim earlier this summer, and Microsoft hopes to continue its winning streak with the upcoming Age of Empires IV, Forza Horizon 5, and Halo Infinite.

Microsoft’s Xbox 20th anniversary broadcast will air at 10AM PT on November 15, and you’ll be able to watch it on the usual Xbox channels on Twitch, YouTube, and other social platforms. This is probably something longtime Xbox fans won’t want to miss, and we hope that the Xbox team has planned a couple of surprises for this special celebration. After Microsoft stopped announcing new backwards compatible games at the end of the previous console generation, the event looks like a good opportunity to bring more classic OG Xbox or Xbox 360 games to gamers.
