It’s now time to take a look at the top, best, and most popular Windows 8.1 and Windows RT apps available in the Windows Store. We will go over some stats for the Windows Store, including the top five paid apps and top five free apps. This is yet another post in our feature called “Windows Store Sunday” where we highlight what’s going on with the Windows Store.
As of November 24th, there are 128,933 apps in the Windows Store, an increase of 1,763 apps in just one week. It’s been a while since we have seen so many apps added to the Windows Store in just one week – with nearly two thousand apps being added. Facebook and Flipboard are the top two free apps as of right now, and the new Asphalt 8 Airborne app is the top app in the paid category.
Wordament, a popular puzzle game for Windows 8.1, received a new update this week adding several new features to the app. The update, which bumps the version number to 2.7, adds Live tile support, along with Snap support for different screen sizes.
Adobe Reader Touch, the Call of Duty app, and Microsoft Solitaire Collection all received minor updates in the Windows Store over the past week, featuring bug fixes and performance improvements.
The official Trip Advisor app made its appearance in the Windows Store this past week, allowing you to plan your getaway.
Microsoft also rolled out minor updates for the Xbox Music and Video apps, as well as the Bing News and Minesweeper apps. The official Netflix app also received a minor update, fixing bugs along the way. Microsoft’s Mail, Calendar, and People apps for Windows 8.1 also received an update.
Earlier this week, the developers behind Nextgen Reader rolled out version two of their app, providing full support for Microsoft’s latest Windows 8.1 operating system – with support for Live tiles, Snap, and more.
We also learned this week that the official VLC app for Windows 8.1 is a step closer to release. We learned that audio output in the upcoming VLC app for Windows 8 has finally been fixed, now its just a matter of time before we see a release.
