Microsoft Teams is adding local time to users’ profile cards – onmsft.com

Microsoft is getting to update the profile card in Teams to make it a bit more useful. Indeed, the company is working on a new feature that will allow users to find out the local time of coworkers by checking their profile cards.

For those unfamiliar, the profile card in Microsoft Teams is a contact card that appears when clicking on someone’s picture or name. Currently, it allows users to start a chat, phone call, or email conversation and check the availability status of their colleagues. However, this release will also add the local time added to the user’s profile card, allowing remote teams to easily collaborate across different time zones. According to the Microsoft 363 roadmap, the local time feature will begin rolling out to Teams desktop and web users in January 2022.

Overall, this is a good step for making Microsoft Teams profile cards a bit more informative, as it’s currently a bit hard to manage timezone differences. As a reminder, Skype used to display users’ local time besides the contact name, but this capability was removed back in 2017 due to “privacy concerns.” Let us know in the comments below if you think that Microsoft Teams should also get a similar implementation.
