Microsoft is working on a new update for video-enabled Teams Android devices, the dedicated Microsoft Teams displays and desk phones that are officially certified by third-party manufacturers. As spotted by Dr. Windows, the feature will finally let users join Zoom and Webex meetings.
Microsoft released support for joining third-party meetings from Microsoft Teams Rooms with direct guest join last year. The feature provides a one-touch experience for the Teams Rooms devices to natively join meetings hosted on Zoom and Cisco WebEx with a username and email address. Now the company is planning to bring the same capability to select all-in-one Android-powered dedicated Teams devices.
The feature is listed on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap as currently under development, and it is slated to be released in September. “Direct guest join (aka Third-party meeting join) is an ability to join meetings of other meeting providers from Microsoft Teams. Third-party meetings will appear on the Teams calendar and users will be able to join them the same way they join any other Teams meeting,” Microsoft explains in an update to its roadmap.
Microsoft has been working hard in recent months to close feature gaps between Teams and Zoom.
