Windows Store

It’s now time to take a look at the top, best, and most popular Windows 8 and Windows RT apps available in the Windows Store. We will go over some stats for the Windows Store, including the top five paid apps and top five free apps. This is yet another post in our weekly feature called “Windows Store Sunday” where we highlight what’s going on with the Windows Store.

As of August 25th, there are 113,504 in the Windows Store, an increase of 743 apps in just one week. Compared to last week, the top-five free apps has seen some minor shuffling around and the official Twitter app has made its return to the list. Netflix continues being the number one app while Google Search and Adobe’s Photoshop Express round out the top three. The top five free apps in the United States based on popularity are:

  • Netflix
  • Google Search
  • Adobe Photoshop Express
  • Twitter
  • Skype

In the top-five paid list, the recently released Halo Spartan Assault has been knocked off the top five paid list for a third week in a row. Fruit Ninja is back at the top of the list and both Angry Birds games have managed to stay on the list as well. Here are the top five paid apps currently in the Windows Store:

  • Fruit Ninja
  • Bejeweled LIVE
  • Angry Birds Star Wars
  • Crash Course Go
  • Angry Birds Space

During the week, two popular apps received an update in the Windows Store, which includes Microsoft’s Fresh Paint app and The Weather Channel app for Windows 8 and Windows RT. While the update to the Fresh Paint app is minor, the update to the Weather Channel app brings along with it some new features.

For those of you who have a Netflix movie streaming subscription and own a Windows 8 or Windows RT device, you likely have the Netflix app installed. Netflix has rolled out another minor update of the Netflix app this week, offering bug fixes and performance improvements.

For those of you who use the Dropbox cloud storage service, an update became available for the official Dropbox app for Windows 8 and Windows RT this week. No details were revealed as to what was added to the update, so we classified it as a minor update that addresses bugs and improves performance.

Stay tuned for next weeks Windows Store highlight!
