Microsoft's creative expression apps that come with Windows 8.1

With the release of Windows 8.1, Microsoft is set to roll out some new and updated built-in apps that Microsoft likes to call “creative expression” apps. These apps include the Photos, Movie Moments, Fresh Paint, and Camera apps.

“With Windows 8.1 comes an exciting set of new and improved apps – apps that allow you to go from capturing images to making brilliant edits to sharing within a matter of moments. These apps make the images, memories, and creations you care about easy to capture, simple to edit, and seamless to share,” Microsoft stated in an official blog post.

\

The built-in Camera app features easier controls and access from the lock screen. You can even take a photo while recording video by simply tapping on the screen as the video recorder runs. The app also features some neat photo editing capabilitites for some quick fixing as well as a panorama feature. The Camera app also lets you select the best picture from a series of rapid shots. This feature is called photo loop.

\

“With the Photos app in Windows 8.1, you can edit photos both stored on your computer as well as photos stored in SkyDrive through one seamless experience.  The Windows 8.1 Photos app gives you beautiful full screen photo viewing and editing across all your Windows apps and the desktop,” Microsoft explained about the Photos app.

The Movie Moments app lets you trim the video, add short captions, and put in some music resulting in a clip that you can share with your family or friends. As you can see from the video below, you can add captions into a video clip.

Last but not least, there is the Fresh Paint app. “It’s easy to create whatever you can imagine in Fresh Paint. Whether you are an artist who wants to make a masterpiece from scratch, or someone who wants to make a painting from a photo in just a few seconds, Fresh Paint is the canvas for your big ideas,” Microsoft explains.

\

The app features a new Inspire Me tile that offers you a gallery of inspirational images, which ultimately allow you to import them, add filters to them and paint. Microsoft has also improved pen and stylus input, especially for those on the Surface device. You can also save custom palettes and import a painting directly from SkyDrive.

With these apps, Microsoft promises you the ability to express yourself. Microsoft has been on a roll lately highlight all the new apps and updated apps that are in the upcoming free update to Windows 8, called Windows 8.1. Windows 8.1 is set for release on October 17th, which is just one day away!
