According to a new report, Microsoft is planning on refreshing its Surface RT lineup by offering a model that is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon CPU. Currently, the Surface RT runs on Nvidia’s Tegra 3 chipset.
Microsoft will reportedly release a refreshed version of the Surface RT, powered by Windows RT 8.1 and a Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU. Microsoft will most likely be using the Snapdragon 800 processor for the refreshed lineup of Surface RT devices. However, the software giant still plans on using Nvidia’s chipset for “some versions” of the Surface RT.
Microsoft is also apparently testing these new Surface RT devices, powered by Windows RT 8.1 and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. The refreshed Surface RT sports integrated LTE connectivity, which is something Microsoft recently hinted at when mentioning how there is a “propensity for a much higher percentage of PCs that are going to ship with mobile broadband.”
Not much else is known about the refreshed lineup of Surface RT devices or when we will see them in stores. Could we be seeing a small screen Surface RT 8.1 powered by a Qualcomm CPU in the coming months?
