Microsoft looking to release remastered Gears of War on Xbox One

According to numerous rumors, it looks like Gears of War (GoW) is headed to the Xbox One. Hopefully, any GoW collection fares better than the disastrous launch of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, with its numerous multiplayer issues that had users fuming. There are a lot of Xbox 360 owners out there that think that GoW was the definitive game that brought Xbox 360 as the leader in the console wars. However, as the GoW series continued, nothing new was brought to the table and I quickly lost interest in the series.

Microsoft and Black Tusk Studios look to re-ignite interest in the GoW series by letting players play GoW in HD and at 60 fps on the Xbox One. The new updated re-release of GoW for Xbox One will include updated graphics and cut scenes. There was a previous rumor that Microsoft was working on a “Marcus Fenix Collection” of the GoW series, but that it was just that, a rumor. Black Tusk head Rod Fergusson clarified the rumor in March:

“I love the passion, but there’s no Marcus Fenix Collection. We ARE working on other exciting Gears projects. I’ll see you at E3.”

Xbox head Phil Spencer wants Microsoft to get back to what made GoW such a great game on Xbox 360:

“The thing that was great about the early Gears of War games, to me, was just the epic scale of the settings that I was in. “The story, the setting was a lot more what I would call soulful and maybe even a little dark. I think the game over time became almost more of a parody of itself; not for any kind of horrible reasons. It’s hard to continue to manage the IP.”

Until we hear more from Microsoft and Black Tusk Studios at E3 in June, for now the GoW coming to Xbox One is just that, a rumor.
