Back in October, Microsoft introduced commenting capabilities to the new Lists app on the web. In an update to its Microsoft 365 roadmap, the company has revealed that it is improving the web commenting experience and adding support for comments to the iOS & Microsoft Teams apps.
With this update, the Lists app will add new commenting controls for web users in March this year. This means that users will be able to enable and disable the ability for people to add comments on list items via a new list-level setting in the app. In addition to this, Microsoft is expanding the web commenting functionality to the iOS mobile app and the Lists app in Teams in the coming months.
Currently, Office 365 Admins can restrict comments on List Items in the web app via a Powershell command tenant-wide for all Lists. There is no option to do it for individual Lists in specific Teams and Sites. Also, comments added on List items in Microsoft Teams are different from those on List items in the web app, and there is no way to sync them.
The ability to disable comments should help people to avoid confusion and reduce distractions in the workflow.
