According to a new report from All Things Digital, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is expected to unveil his company restructuring plans by July 1st. While this means that things will be a bit more condensed and executives will be in charge of more areas of the company, this has brought doubt upon many executives.
“That prospect has many top managers at the company worried, since Ballmer has been making these significant plans with limited consultation with the wider leadership group at the software giant. Instead, he has been working with only a small group of his direct reports and also some Microsoft board members, numerous sources said,” the report stated.
The report adds that most senior executives within the company were left out of the decision making process, which adds to their uneasiness of this new change. According to several sources within the software giant, this change is being compared to the movie Titanic as well as the idea that there will be some departures within the staff.
For those that don’t recall, Ballmer mentioned that Microsoft was shifting into a “devices and services” company. “This is a significant shift, both in what we do and how we see ourselves – as a devices and services company. It impacts how we run the company, how we develop new experiences, and how we take products to market for both consumers and businesses,” Ballmer stated back in October of 2012.
Ballmer’s plans revolve around creating four divisions: an enterprise business led by Satya Nadella; a hardware unit overseen by Don Mattrick; an applications and services division under Qi Lu; and an operating-systems group jointly led by Terry Myerson, Windows Phone chief, and Julie Larson-Green, head of Windows engineering.
