Bad news if you’re a Windows Phone 7 or a Zune user. Microsoft has stated that they will stop supporting Xbox Video playback on both Windows Phone 7 and Zune devices.
Microsoft issued an email to Windows Phone 7 and Zune users this weekend, stating that these devices will not be able to play any content purchased from Xbox Video starting in late February.
The email from Microsoft said: “This email is to notify you that in late February, 2014, Xbox will be making an update to our video catalog. This update will allow us to more quickly and efficiently add the highest quality video content to the Xbox Video service.
As a result, beginning in late February 2014, any Xbox Video content you own as of then, will no longer be playable through the Zune PC client, Zune devices, or Windows Phone 7 devices. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”
Keep in mind though, you will still be able to play your purchased content on other ways, such as a PC or Mac at XboxVideo.com, or an Xbox One, Xbox 360, Windows 8 / 8.1 tablet, and Windows Phone 8 devices, but not Zune or Windows Phone 7 devices.
This is not really surprising, since Microsoft has already replaced both these devices and services they both have, with having Windows Phone 8 take Windows Phone 7’s place and Xbox Music and Video replace Zune in total. I guess this is the time to upgrade to Windows Phone 8 if you’re still stuck in the old days.
