Microsoft has been on the defensive for its new Xbox One entertainment console, ever since Sony revealed its PS4 gaming console. In a recent interview, Microsoft’s Xbox boss Don Mattrick defended the Xbox One’s $499 price point claiming that the software giant was “over-delivering” value compared to other choices.
“It’s a lower number than some of the analysts had forecasted. We’re over-delivering value against other choices I think consumers can get. Any modern product these days you look at it [and] $499 isn’t a ridiculous price point. We’re delivering thousands of dollars of value to people, so I think they’re going to love it when they use it,” Microsoft’s Don Mattrick stated in defense of the $499 price point for the new Xbox One.
The Xbox One’s primary competitor, the new Sony PlayStation 4, runs for $399, roughly $100 cheaper than the Xbox One. However, Microsoft believes that the Xbox One is “over-delivering value” considering that the $499 price point includes a Kinect sensor as well. The PlayStation 4, on the other hand, does not come with an eye sensor.
“We’re really making the living room your center of fun for your family,” Mattrick stated during the interview. Both consoles will see availability this holiday season.
