Microsoft branded tablet PC? – onmsft.com

Information has been leaked in a report about a potential Microsoft branded Tablet PC, which will keep Microsoft in the fight with Apple’s Ipad and the many tablets running Google’s Android.

As Digitimes reports, Microsoft, the most dominating company since the 90s when it comes to Desktop and Laptop operating systems due to their successful Windows OS, is reported to be considering to branch out with a Microsoft branded tablet PC with the release of Windows 8 at the end of 2012.

The report states that Microsoft will be working together with Texas Instruments and a number of Taiwanese hardware manufacturers to build a device branded with Microsoft’s name.

FoxNews.com reports, that a spokeswoman from Microsoft did not deny the report but instead said that “we don’t have any information to share at this time.”

It’s not a secret that Microsoft, especially since the purchase of Skype, has been branching out of its well established pc-related market to launch its own branded products, as Digitimes wrote.

“Xbox 360 is currently the only own-brand product line that Microsoft has achieved success [with], while Zune media player, Kin smartphone and own-brand TVs all had unsatisfactory performance. However, Microsoft is still considering to launch an own-brand tablet PC and is proceeding on a low profile,”

At the All Things D conference in California, Microsoft Windows President Steven Sinofsky demonstrated a Windows 8 Tablet prototype and it was clear to see that Apple’s Ipad and the range of Google Android tablets had been taken into consideration when designing the Windows 8 tablet.

Windows 8 which is also called the new tablet friendly operating system will in its visual way function much like the Windows Phone 7 system, with tiles that can be customised and moved around as you want.

The Windows 8 tablet news comes in a time where computing for the first time is moving away from relying on Desktops and Laptops but soon also will include a touchscreen option.

Most probably don’t remember but over a decade ago, Microsoft made an attempt to rise in the tablet market with the release of Tablet PC platform, but that went no-where.
