Microsoft Is Being Relatively Quiet About Windows 10, So People Don’t Flake At Buying New PCs This Holiday Season – onmsft.com

Microsoft is being relatively quiet about Windows 10, so people don't flake at buying new PCs this holiday season

According to a Gartner analyst, Microsoft is being relatively quiet with Windows 10 in the consumer front, so people don’t flake on purchasing new PCs this holiday season. Microsoft recently unveiled Windows 10 and launched the Technical Preview, which was aimed at enterprise customers.

“Microsoft can’t make a big bang and talk about a new version of Windows in September with the holidays coming and consumers deciding that ‘if Windows 10 is coming, I’m just going to wait and not buy a PC,'” said Michael Silver, an analyst with Gartner. “That’s why last week’s announcement was pretty quiet and enterprise focused,” Silver added. “That’s why the hype [about Windows 10] is so low.”

This bold statement does make sense and explains why Microsoft launched a preview for the enterprise first, rather than consumers. Microsoft touted changes in Windows 10 that would benefit corporations and a less of an emphasis on Windows 8’s dual user interface (Modern UI vs desktop). Clearly businesses will find Windows 10 a much better solution as the line between touch and non-touch have been further blurred.

As Computerworld points out, the key message during the September 30th unveiling of Windows 10 was that users would not be confused when making the move from Windows 7 or Windows 8. “..whether they’re coming from Windows 7 or Windows 8, the workers at these companies will be immediately productive,” said Windows chief Terry Myerson during the Windows 10 unveil.

Once the 2014 holiday sales season is over, Microsoft is expected to talk more about Windows 10 for consumers. “Early in 2015 we’ll introduce the consumer chapter and talk much more about other device types and more consumer features,” Myerson added.
