Microsoft Band 2 reportedly far into its development stages, will launch soon

The Microsoft Band is really more of an experiment than a finished product, a public prototype if you like. While the Microsoft Health service it is powered on works great, the hardware isn’t as top notch as you would expect from a company that also developed the Surface.

Microsoft’s venture into the wearable technology industry will continue though according to WinFuture.de via Windows Central. The site claims that a Microsoft Band 2 is already well into its development stage. Microsoft being a feedback driven company now is expected to address many, if not all of the lingering issues with the first Band, namely its bulkiness, the easily scratchable screen, and the poor battery life.

WinFuture.de suggests that Microsoft is looking to tie in the launch of the Band 2 with the launch of Windows 10, so the wearable may end up running a version of Windows 10 (Windows 10 IoT maybe?) instead of the custom firmware used on the original Band.

There is still no word on a proper Microsoft-branded smartwatch, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see Microsoft partner up with PC OEMs to develop some of their own. In the meantime, let us know what you expect the new Microsoft Band 2 to feature in the comments below.
