For many years, Apple has been heavily promoting their back-to-school campaign with free iPods for students purchasing Macs. Now, Microsoft has launched a similar campaign offering a free Xbox 360 for students purchasing Windows 7 PCs.
Starting from May 22, students purchasing a Windows 7 PC over $699 will receive a free Xbox 360 4GB console. The offer is available online from Dell.com, HP.com, or the Microsoft Store. For students interested in purchasing from retail stores, Best Buy and Microsoft Store will be participating in the promotion. The promotion will also be launching soon in France and Canada.
Students interested in the offer will be required to purchase through their .edu email address or can bring their Student ID to any retail store participating in the promotion. Do note that the offer is available only until September 3 or while supplies last.
With Kinect being such a runaway success for Microsoft, this new Back-to-School campaign should entice many students interested in purchasing a Back-to-School PC and an Xbox 360 when heading to college. For $699, there is quite a variety of powerful laptops and desktops available plus the added bonus of a free Xbox 360 provides much greater value for money compared to an Apple laptop starting at $999 as recently highlighted in Microsoft’s “Do the math” campaign.
