Microsoft announces Skype for Fire Phone, features 'dynamic perspective'

Last month, Amazon forayed into the smartphone business by introducing the Fire Phone — the company’s first smartphone. The handset sports a 13MP camera and offers a 3D user interface of sorts. Microsoft has announced that it is developing a Skype app for the Fire Phone which will be complementing the phone’s 3D capabilities, dubbed as “dynamic perspective”.

The popular video conferencing and instant messenger service, Skype, is already available across most popular platforms. With its announcement, it becomes one of the several apps and services that will be available on the soon-to-be-launched Fire Phone.

Microsoft confirmed that this app isn’t a cheap port of the Skype for Android app, rather it is being built to take advantage of Fire Phone’s intuitive home screen and a drop-down widget that lets you check recent conversations, contacts, and notifications without opening the app.

“Through a widget that is visible from Fire’s Carousel, users can easily see their chats and notifications at a glance, without having to launch the Skype app and open chats with a one-click action,“ the Skype team wrote.

The icon and notification badge will be able to make use of  the ‘dynamic perspective’ —  which is the handset’s ability to make on-screen content appear in 3D. Skype will come pre-installed on the Fire Phone.
