Microsoft has announced the acquisition of ADRM Software, a leading provider of large-scale industry data models that are used by companies as “information blueprints.” The Redmond giant will use the data models designed by ADRM with Azure’s storage and compute for creating its own intelligent data lakes, with the intent of bringing together information from various lines of business.

For those unfamiliar, large-scale data models are basically used by hundreds of organizations around the world, and ADRM’s models cover a wide range of industries such as financial services, healthcare, and communications. These organizations use them as information blueprints in order to build, redefine, and integrate them into their own business concepts over a long period of time, and it helps them to build interoperability in their existing ecosystems.

Microsoft ADRM acquisition

According to Microsoft, most businesses are currently struggling to get access to a comprehensive view of their data in order to leverage its full potential. “Data and AI are the foundation of modern technological innovation, yet businesses today struggle to unlock the full value data has to offer as fragmented data estates hinder digital transformation. Without a comprehensive and integrated view of their data, companies are at a competitive disadvantage, which hinders digital adoption and data-driven innovation,” said Microsoft Corporate Vice President of Azure Global Industry Ravi Krishnaswamy in a press release today.

In order to address these issues, Microsoft said their Azure team excited to collaborate with ADRM and is looking forward to driving the digital transformation journeys of their customers and partners around the globe.
