Lumia denim may be the last windows phone update before windows phone 10

Last month, Microsoft started rolling out the Lumia Denim update for a bunch of handsets. Some of them have already received it while many are still waiting for the update to pop up on their Windows Phone handset. Previously, the company confirmed Lumia Denim roll out will complete by the end of 2014, but it never happened, and it seems it’s going to be the last Windows Phone 8.1 update.

According to a new report from NokiaPowerUser, citing their sources, the folks at Redmond may skip the Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 update, and directly focus on the Windows Phone 10 or Windows 10 Mobile — whatever moniker it will launch with.

We heard about the Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 which was expected to bring a host of new features and improvements, with an expected launch by 2014 end, but the plans of the company didn’t materialize.

We’ve known for sometime that Microsoft is working on a unified platform which will work flawlessly on phones as well as small tablets with the Windows 10. Windows 10 is already available as preview, but the company is yet to reveal any information about the mobile version of the operating system. As far as the roll out is concerned, users may have to wait for a few more months before they can get to try the latest Windows 10 Mobile since the current Lumia Denim is not available on all devices across the globe — it should start by the second half of 2015. The carrier bound units may take even longer to get the latest updates, although Microsoft is continuing with its “Developer Preview” program, which bypasses the carriers.

Microsoft has an event scheduled for January 21st where the company is expected to offer at least a preview of the newest version of the phone OS. WinBeta will be present at the event live, bringing you all the latest Windows 10 news.
