The Lumia 640 and 640 XL were first debuted at Mobile World Congress 2015, and though they were aimed squarely at the lower-end of the market, they certainly turned a few heads.

Now, following an event held today in the UK (attended by Stephen Elop), the devices are now available for purchase in Blighty.

The Lumia 640 is the slightly lower specced of the two, with a 5 inch 720p IPS LCD screen with Clearblack and Gorilla Glass 3. The device sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, 8GB of internal storage, a MicroSD card slot and a removable 2500 mAh battery. The phone also has an 8MP rear-facing camera with LED flash.

On the other hand, the 640 XL, as the name implies, is a somewhat chunkier device. With the same screen, but stretched out to 5.7 inches, and the same processor, this indeed a super-sized 640. However the device also differs in other areas, with a larger 3000 mAh removable battery and a 13MP rear-facing camera with ZEISS optics.

Both devices will come in 3G and 4G variants, and customers who make a purchase will also receive 1TB of OneDrive cloud storage space and 60 minutes of free international Skype calls per month. Currently Carphone Warehouse and EE among others are expected to stock the device, but given its price, availability will likely expand soon.
