Leaks hint at minor upgrades for upcoming Surface Laptops

Following the unveiling of its Surface Pro 7 Plus, new leaks have emerged signaling that Microsoft’s more traditional clamshell Surface Laptop will be following a similar upgrade path in 2021.

Microsoft unveiled its 2021 upgrades to its Surface Pro lineup that included a new 11th Gen Intel chips as well as removable M.2SDD, and some odd percentage of increased battery percentages, and yet, left the Surface Pro largely unchanged.

In a similar fashion, it seems as though the Surface Laptop 3 Plus or Surface 4 will be dealt the same familiar production hand. According to rumors from Windows Central, the Surface Laptop could drop sometime in April, and combined with the latest leaked Bluetooth certification, it seems customers can expect another minor refresh from Microsoft in early 2021.

The Bluetooth certification shows multiple Surface Laptop variants passing certification including 1952, 1953, 1950, and two more Surface Pro 7 Plus models in 1960 and 1961. Just like the last generation, the new Surface Laptops will come in two screen sizes that include a 13.5-inch and 15-inch models, and just like last year, Microsoft will continue its partnership with AMD to power specific variants.

Other than that, not much else is known at the moment about the potential of a new Surface Laptop coming out in early 2021. If everything remains steady, we could see Microsoft roll out its Surface Laptop upgrades as it did with the Pro lineup, directly to education and commercial customers.

Ideally, Microsoft will follow suit with its Surface Pro lineup and grant the sweet release of hobbled 4GB driven devices and begin its base model 2021 upgrades with 8GB of memory. With early releases for devices going through a spec bump upgrade cycle, Microsoft’s typical Fall hardware showcase is coming more into question as to what, if anything the company might have to show off then.
