HockeyApp, a service which offers mobile crash analytics and an app distribution service for developers has been acquired by Microsoft, as revealed in a recent announcement.
Redmond has been a HockeyApp customer since 2011, as such the two firms have worked together for a number of years now. The service currently operates on iOS and Android in addition to Windows Phone, and it seems most likely that things will stay the same, especially given Microsoft’s drive to continue developing their recently acquired title ‘Minecraft’ for a bevy of other devices and operating systems, and today’s release of the MSN suite of apps for iOS and Android.
Users are advised that they will see no changes to their account or the usability of the platform, the development team behind HockeyApp have pledged to continue work to develop and improve their software in terms of both stability and functionality.
S. Somasegar, corporate vice-president of Microsoft’s developer division described HockeyApp as “class-leading” and stated,
“With the acquisition of HockeyApp, we will continue to build on our vision to provide industry-leading tools and services for any mobile platform through both Visual Studio and Visual Studio Online”
Located in Stuttgart, Germany, HockeyApp will be rolled into the Application Insights service in Visual Studio Online in order to expand Application Insights support for other operating systems.
