Windows 10 Mobile has finally started to roll out for existing Windows Phone 8.1 devices this month, and again, a few unfortunate users with the wrong device are left out. Specifically, it’s the HTC One M8 with Windows: there is no known plans for the phone to get Windows 10 Mobile. Today we finally have an explanation, thanks to the effort of Italian news site Plaffo and it may not be what you think.
The site uncovered a Twitter conversation between HTC’s official customer support handle @HTCHelp and a customer who laments about the Windows 10 Mobile’s neglect of the One M8. According to HTC’s reply, it’s actually Microsoft who has chosen not to bring its newest mobile OS to the Taiwanese phonemaker’s former flagship.

If what HTC says is true (and it likely is, since the tweet still exists), then it is a very curious decision from Redmond: after all, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 and 2GB of RAM under the hood, the HTC was one of the most powerful phone at the time of its release, and should still be more than capable enough to handle anything Windows 10 Mobile can come up with. Despite being one of the few big-named makers to join the Windows Phone bandwagon in the early days, HTC Windows phones in general seems almost jinxed when it comes to the newest OS updates, with the HTC 8X being in a similar situation. So far there have been no explanation from Microsoft; we will update you once more info comes.
