HTC 8S

HTC users have been repeatedly mentioning their frustrations when trying to upgrade to the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 preview. Microsoft did mention on its support forums that some devices require an update from carriers or the OEM before it can run the preview properly. Specifically, users rocking the HTC 8S/8X were experiencing issues with the update, and now HTC has given a statement regarding the issue.

It may not come as a good news as the Taiwanese OEM has confirmed on its support forums that HTC 8S won’t get the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1. This could mean that it has reached its end of life which makes sense since the device is almost two years old. They further said that the company is looking into the issues haunting the Windows Phone 8X users when it comes to Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1.

Here’s a rough translation,

By HTC and Microsoft R & D department matters after repeated communication on HTC 8X / 8S upgrade Windows Phone 8.1 Update developer preview version now follows notification:

HTC 8X will be the first time after time push notification system testing stable, while HTC 8S because some hardware upgrades do not meet the criteria, this will not be upgraded, hope you are using HTC 8S friends can understand. For more information please timely official micro-blog users to focus on information, thank you for the user has been support for HTC, thank you.

This is definitely a sad news for all HTC 8S owners, but it seems now might be a good time to upgrade, or you can wait for a few more months to see if Microsoft has any interesting product to offer to Windows Phone fans.
