HP launches Sprout -- A Windows PC unlike any you’ve seen before

Today, HP has announced a PC that is truly unique, the first PC that fully relies on a natural user interface for users to interact with it — the HP Sprout. The machine comes in an all-in-one form factor with a 23” 20-point multi-touch 1080p display, an Intel Core i7-4790S ‘Haswell’ CPU, an NVIDIA GeForce GT 745A, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, and a hybrid 1TB HDD + 8GB SSD for storage, in addition to the expected connectivity hardware and ports.

What makes this device stand out however, is the addition of the HP Illuminator and the HP Touch Mat. The Illuminator is a built-in DLP projector assisted by a 14.6 megapixel camera and an Intel RealSense 3D camera, to capture both 2D and 3D objects. It also serves as an LED desk lamp (because, why not).

The Touch Mat on the other hand is a 20” surface for touch input that’s coated with an “ultra-resistant” top. The Touch Mat works with fingers or a stylus, and was designed to replace the mouse and keyboard. Both the Touch Mat and the Illuminator can recognize up to 20 touch-points at the same time.

It’s the way that all these components work together than make the HP Sprout so unique. A user could use the Sprout to capture 3D objects and have them inputted into the PC, which the user would then be able to manipulate to their liking. This can come in handy in multiple scenarios as the video above demonstrates.

This is not a prototype that you will never get to purchase; you can snatch up the HP Sprout starting at $1,899 come November 9th with preorder available today (October 29th).
