How to automatically remove duplicate tracks from Xbox Music after uploading your music to OneDrive

Yesterday was a busy day, and while Microsoft’s release a new Windows 10 Technical Preview build stole the headlines, the company also held its WinHEC event where it had several Windows 10 announcements. And since that wasn’t enough for the day, the company also officially launched its free OneDrive music streaming service.

Users can finally upload their personal music library on OneDrive and stream it using the Xbox Music apps on Windows and Windows Phone. However, doing so may result in duplicates, particularly if you already have music stored locally on your device or if you have an Xbox Music Pass. The good news is that Microsoft makes it easy to remove duplicates, and here’s how:

  1. Start the Xbox Music app on your Windows 8.1 device
  2. Bring out the Charms bar and hit ‘Settings’
  3. Click ‘Preferences’
  4. Toggle ‘Automatically clean up duplicate tracks’
