If you’re involved in any sort of media production in the entertainment industry, be it TV, film, digital imaging or game creation, you’ll know how important it is to have a powerful computer by your side that won’t slam the brakes on your creativity. Workstation computers are specifically designed for these kind of workloads and you have two options to get your hands on one; you could either build one yourself, or by one from an OEM readymade.
Should you decide to go with the latter, HP have recently announced some of the most powerful workstation PC’s available. The company’s new Z line of workstations feature the latest Intel Xeon CPU’s based on the chipmaker’s latest Haswell-EP architecture, and come with up to 18 multithreaded cores in a single CPU. You can also get up to 512GB of GDDR4 RAM, up to 600GB of HDD storage, and your choice of the latest NVIDIA Quadro or AMD FirePro graphics cards. There’s no shortage of computing horsepower with these desktops.
On the other hand, if you rather have that computing prowess in a mobile form factor, HP have also announced their ZBook line of mobile workstations that come with the latest Intel mobile processors, up to 32GB of DDR3 RAM, up to 1TB of storage, and the mobile equivalents of the aforementioned graphics cards.
The HP Z440, Z640 and Z840 desktop workstations are expected to be available worldwide beginning in October and pricing starts at $1,299 for the Z440, $1,759 for the Z640, and $2,399 for the Z840.
