Have a Surface 3? Microsoft is rolling out another firmware update

It’s only been two weeks since Microsoft updated firmware for the Surface 3, bringing a long line of fixes, but today they’re at it again. The company has released a February update for the Surface 3, and although the changelog isn’t nearly as long as last time, it does bring some important changes. Included in the February firmware update, according to a changelog spotted over at Windows Central, are three significant updates:

  • Surface UEFI update (v1.51116.78.0) – recalibrates touch panel.
  • Surface Touch Controller Firmware update (v4.251.60.0) – recalibrates touch panel.
  • Surface Platform Power Driver update (v2.1.36.1) – improves charging.

Microsoft has been taking some heat lately for problems with its new Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book products, both suffering sleep issues that apparently will, but haven’t been yet, fixed by updates to the firmware, that layer of software below the operating system held in the UEFI (unified extensible firmware interface), a successor to the BIOS (basic input output system). Even though Microsoft has yet to fix the sleep issues in its latest line of Surface products, it’s apparent that firmware is getting a lot of attention at Microsoft, and word is that a fix is coming sooner rather than later.
