GULEEK i8 is a dirt cheap Windows 8.1 machine which comes with a battery and can be used to run Windows applications on Android devices

Over the past couple of months, we have seen several companies launch TV-related products. Google, for example, released the Nexus Player recently which lets users not only enjoy their favorite channels but also run Android games on the television. It also lets users beam their device’s content on the big screen. While Microsoft is yet to announce any similar product, thankfully, we now have a handful of devices from other OEMs that allow similar functionalities. The latest to join that list is a dirt-cheap made-in-China GULEEK i8.

The GULEEK i8 is a small external hard-drive-like hardware. And besides its dirt-cheap price tag of $104, there are several features that make it seem like a must-have product. First of all, its runs the Windows 8.1 operating system and is powered by a 1.8 GHz Intel Atom Z3735F Bay Trail processor. Secondly, it comes with a 3,000mAh battery which could come in handy in an event of a power outage or while traveling.

There’s another interesting feature. DealExtreme, the company which is selling the device, notes that one can use an Android app to remotely login to the GULEEK i8. This way, it is possible to interact with Windows applications on an Android device. The app can also be used to remote control the media playback and browse through other apps without using a keyboard or mouse.

The other hardware specification of the i8 includes 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a microSD slot should you need more memory. Two USB ports are also there, in case you want to connect an external hard-drive. On the connectivity front, the GULEEK i8 supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.

Want a more powerful device? You may want to check the Vensmil iPC002. It essentially offers similar features and comes with similar hardware specification as the i8, except that the battery is a little juicier at 7,000mAh battery and the internal storage reads 32GB.
