Groove Music launches on Android, web

With the launch of Windows 10, Microsoft has rebranded its Xbox Music service as Groove Music. The new Groove Music universal app was included in yesterday’s Windows 10 launch, and now the rebranded Groove Music service is available both on the Web and in the Google Play store.

As spotted by Neowin, users can now pull up Groove Music on the web at music.microsoft.com or download the new Groove Music app on the Google Play store for their Android device. The former home of Xbox Music on the web, music.xbox.com, now resolves to this new address.

Meet Groove

Groove Music works like other streaming music services, allowing users to either stream or download songs and albums from a massive library, ad free, in exchange for a monthly fee. If you are new to the service, Microsoft is offering a free 30-day trial.

Android owners are also now able to stream their own personal collection of MP3s from OneDrive through the Groove Music app.

Overall, the rebranding brings mostly a new polish to Microsoft’s music service, as the OneDrive streaming feature has been previously supported on Windows devices. But hopefully, it will help clarify for many that the music service is in no way tied to owning an Xbox and that it offers an attractive point of differentiation from other services with the ability to stream your own personal collection of Music you own outright without any DRM strings.

Are you planning to try out Groove Music’s new Android app? Let us known in the comments section below.
