Just recently, Microsoft announced that Windows 8 will be the first Windows operating system to feature an app store, titled Windows Store. Microsoft is now running a contest to get app developers to submit apps to have them featured in the Windows Store when Windows 8 Beta launches.
“With this contest, we now provide you the opportunity to take that passion to the next level and show off the amazing experiences you are bringing to Windows 8. Beginning yesterday and running until January 8th, 2012, you will have the chance to submit your apps to the First Apps Contest,” Microsoft stated in an official blog post.
The winners of the First Apps Contest will have their app name reserved in the Windows Store and will be featured in the Windows Store when Windows 8 Beta is launched, at the end of February 2012. Aside from bragging rights, the winners will also receive 12 months of Windows Azure hosting, a 2-year subscription to the Windows Store, and a Samsung Windows Developer Preview PC (the same one given out at BUILD).
The three Microsoft judges for this contest will be Jason Zander (Corporate VP of Visual Studio), Jensen Harris (Partner Director of Program Management for the Windows User Experience), and Antoine Leblond (Senior Vice President, Windows Web Services).
