If you want to get a look at Microsoft’s latest operating system, or if you’re a developer looking to dabble in building apps for Windows 11 you can download Microsoft’s official virtual machine for free.  These virtual machines have been updated with the latest developer bits including Windows 11 2022, Visual Studio 2022, and other utilities.

These virtual machines are free until January 10, 2023, after that Microsoft will begin asking you for activation.  If you activate it with a genuine key you can continue using the system.  You’ll have two months to use the following resources for free.

  • Window 11 Enterprise (Evaluation)
  • Visual Studio 2022 Community Edition with UWP, .NET Desktop, Azure, and Windows App SDK for C# workloads enabled
  • Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 enabled with Ubuntu installed
  • Windows Terminal installed
  • Developer mode enabled

These Windows 11 2022 virtual machines come in four in four flavors, VMWare, Hyper-V, VirtualBox, and Parallels.  You will need at least 20GB of storage available to get started.
