Windows 10 news recap: Build 10147 leaks, free upgrade, new PCs and tablets, and much more

\n

It’s been a week full of exciting Windows 10 news. Let’s take this time to look back in a piece we like to call “Windows 10 news recap.” At the start of the week, the focus was on Windows 10 Mobile and Microsoft’s big E3 Xbox briefing. However, during the middle of last week, Windows 10 build 10147 leaked onto the internet.

\n

Windows 10 build 10147 comes with a refined user interface, dark mode for Microsoft Edge, and much more. Build 10147 still has bugs and was not made available to participants of the Windows Insider Program. You can check out our hands-on demo of the build below.

Microsoft announced a few weeks back that Windows 10 would include a Phone Companion app, which would allow users to easily setup and sync their phone with their Windows 10 PC. The Phone Companion app works with Windows 10 Mobile, Android and iOS devices, and will be available in the Windows 10 RTM by default on July 29th. Head over here to take a look at some of the screenshots of this app.

\n

Starting with the next official build, Windows Insiders will begin to start seeing notifications asking for them to connect their Microsoft Account (MSA). According to Gabe Aul, “You’ll need to connect the MSA that you registered for the Windows Insider Program with (and accepted the “Microsoft Windows Insider Program Agreement”) in order to continue receiving new Windows 10 Insider Preview builds (both Fast and Slow rings) from Windows Update.” More on that here.

\n

Microsoft is also giving Windows 10 away for free to Windows Insiders, regardless of if you had a Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 install prior to installing Windows 10. Read more about that here.

\n

Dell announced this week that U.S. customers can begin pre-ordering select devices that will come pre-loaded with Microsoft’s newest operating system Windows 10. Orders placed now will start shipping on July 29th, the official release date of Windows 10. The announcement also boasts that with same day shipping you can have your new Dell Windows 10 device delivered on July 30th and be one of the first to show of new laptop or desktop designed for the new operating system.

\n

Toshiba also jumped on board the Windows 10 bandwagon, announcing a new lineup of PCs designed specifically for Windows 10. Toshiba will also be adding a dedicated Cortana button to their devices.

\n

HP unveiled a number of Windows-based devices, which includes the refreshed premium Envy laptop line up along with a new Windows 10 tablet, the HP Pro Tablet 608.

\n

Stay tuned for yet another exciting week of Windows 10 news!
