Yesterday, WindowsCentral noted that Microsoft has bumped the native Photos app for Windows 10 to version 16.1003.10012.0 for both PC and Mobile on Fast Ring, and has brought several UI changes and new animations.

The first change is very apparent with the absence of hamburger menu on the PC, going back to only pivots for navigation between Collections, Albums, and Folders. On Mobile, the header sections are now black instead of gray.

Microsoft has also introduced a new Light or Dark Mode selection which was important since even if you had the System set to Light mode, the Photos app never had a Light mode. The users have a choice now to opt for their preferred mode.

One of the much-needed refresh has been reserved for the Albums view which has a new appropriately sized layout, and shows the photos nicely arranged with seamless user experience.

Of course, the update is only for the Fast Ring users at the moment, but much of the changes would trickle down to other Insider rings as we go along. It is reassuring to know that Microsoft is actively working on enhancing the user experience of native apps, along with services like Cortana and OneDrive at the backend.
