Yesterday, Microsoft introduced the budget-friendly Lumia 650 aimed at business users who are looking for an affordable smartphone. The handset brings a decent set of specifications considering its price tag, but unfortunately, it’s missing one of the most vital Windows 10 Mobile feature: Continuum. It can definitely help users enhance their productivity and user experience as they don’t have to rely on a small screen to perform their tasks at work.
Continuum allow users to connect their smartphone to an external monitor and use peripheral devices such as a mouse and a keyboard through the Display Dock. This makes the smartphone a full-fledged computer, and can definitely boost user’s productivity when it comes to apps like Office while working.
The folks at Slashgear managed to get in touch with Microsoft to ask why the feature wasn’t available. Obviously, hardware requirements posted Continuum page discards Lumia 650 compatibility, but the software giant could have done something to make it work, especially if they are targeting business users.
The company said,
“We are aiming to deliver the most productive Windows 10 Mobile devices at all price points,” said an official Microsoft Spokesperson. “With the Lumia 650, our goal was to create a beautiful device that’s affordable for businesses to buy and deploy.”
“In this price range we are giving customers smart business tools, including seamless Office and OneDrive integration and Cortana, so users can stay productive and synced across all Windows 10 devices. We encourage users looking for Continuum productivity features to explore the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL.”
This should sum up everything for users who are wondering why it’s not present. It was quite obvious to be honest, but it doesn’t matter much considering Microsoft is only charging $200 for a smartphone — you can’t expect it to come with everything Microsoft’s high-end devices are offering.
