Last year, Huawei said it’s committed to the Windows Phone OS, but the company is yet to reveal a new Windows Phone handset. We did hear a rumor in January that the company might unveil its Windows Phone powered Ascend D3 at the CES 2014. The event kicked off in full force, but there was no sighting of a Windows Phone device from the Chinese OEM.
Not too long ago, Karbonn, an Indian OEM also confirmed that it is working on a dual-OS device, set to release in June later this year. Now, it seems Huawei will also follow a similar path. A company executive revealed to TrustedReviews in an interview that the company is working on a dual-OS smartphone, which should hit the retail shelves in the US in Q2. He also said that the company is still committed to Microsoft’s operating system.
The news came from Huawei’s Chief Marketing Officer Shao Yang, who mentioned the company will launch a dual-OS (Android and Windows Phone) powered handset by the second quarter. “With Windows Phone, one direction for us – and one that we are now following – is dual OS. Dual OS as in Android and Windows together”, Yang said.
He further said, “If it is Windows only, maybe people will not find it as easy a decision to buy the phone. If they have the Android and Windows together, you can change it as you wish and it is much easier for people to choose Windows Phone. We think the dual OS can be a new choice for the consumer. It will be on sale in the US in Q2”.
A dual-OS smartphone sounds good, but I don’t think it can be a good choice in reality. Personally, I doubt it can be a successful venture, but you never know. What do you think about this decision?
